2024 has been one busy year, with so many highlights to look back on. I love putting these posts together and seeing winter turning to spring and a burst of life in the summer months, followed by the golden hues of autumn and the festive period. Check out my gallery below to see a variety of family stories throughout the year, some fabulous weddings and seasonal photo stories documenting the solstices and equinoxes in nature. A personal highlight for me was meeting and photographing Dr Jane Goodall at Glastonbury (what an incredible woman!) and working with Riverford for the inaugural issue of their magazine Veg & Table. Read on for some more highlights of 2024. It’s been magic meeting and working with so many beautiful people. Looking forward to meeting many more of you in 2025!
Winter ’24
Some family highlights this winter season included; cosy winter scenes at home and wild swimming at misty Mothecombe beach.
I always love capturing engagement shoots during winter so it was great to meet Rebekah & Andrew at Bantham in January. We were blessed with some incredible light as the sun came down, bursting orange through the clouds. This season I learned about the ancient art of wassailing and enjoyed dancing around the apple trees with the Acid Morris! Winter drew to a close with the annual Hillyfield Easter Egg Hunt. Local kids ran wild, exploring the ancient woodlands and playing with bubbles and paints. It was great to see the land finally coming back to life after its winter slumber.
Spring ’24
In April wedding season started, with Michaela and Alex’s celebrations at Rockbeare Manor. They had a spring themed cake designed by Boho Cakes, a beautiful seasonal touch. Next, I joined Kerri & Jon in Totnes for a day full of colour & joy! It was great to see the Civic Hall transformed for the day and we enjoyed a trip up to the Totnes Castle.
May this year was lush and green as all the wild garlic and flowers appeared in the hedgerows. I photographed two weddings at Middle Coombe Farm in mid May and you could really feel the magic of spring / early summer coming through and the sun twinkled through the woodlands. I celebrated mayday (beltane) this year in Glastonbury, which was a riot of may crowns and green men! It was fun taking the kids to see some maypole dancing in Devon over that weekend too.
Summer ’24
In June Lila & I headed out to Corfu for my brothers wedding. It was awesome to spend some proper time with family and get an extra dose of sunshine. Everything seemed a bit grey when we got back! Luckily, my next wedding was at a venue that I have always been keen to check out – Nancarrow Farm down in Cornwall. It didn’t disappoint. Lauren & Lloyd were stunning to photograph and the crowd was fun loving and wild! A couple of weeks later I had an even wilder time in Glastonbury as the photographer for Scissors, the festivals first ever femme queer venue. The everyone choir was one of my highlights, a rainbow tribe singing “I’m coming out!”.
This summer season it was great to revisit some of my very favourite venues – River Cottage, Hayne Devon, East Soar Farm and The Grain Store. One of my new faves is Bradstone Manor nr Tavistock in Devon. This is a rustic, rambling venue which is reminiscent of a Thomas Hardy novel. It was lovely to be there to capture Luca & Michael’s special day, which finished with a good old-fashioned ceildh.
Autumn ’24
Autumn started early for me as I worked with Riverford during late summer to recreate autumn vibes for the first issue of their magazine Veg & Table. The front cover was taken one dewy dawn, standing in the field kitchen garden. This is otherwise known as ‘Penny’s Polytunnel’ and is described as a ‘cornucopia of unusual veg & herbs nestled in a meadow of wildflowers’. It was magic being there at 6am and watching the sun creep along the garden.
In mid September I photographed Emily & Tristan’s beautiful elopement style wedding in Totnes, before heading off to Suffolk for Harriet & Raphael’s nuptials at Butley Priory. A fabulous day and well worth the journey. It was great to capture some family photos during this season too. Other highlights included, traveling to London with Right to Roam for the Supreme Court hearing Dartmoor National Park vs Darwell on the future of wild camping in England. Also, visiting eco heroes Guy & Geetie Singh Watson at home for a love story amongst the veggies at Baddaford Farm.
I hope you have enjoyed this selection of weddings, families, portraits and other documentary images. Please check out my 2023 in pictures for more and get in touch if you’d like to book me for a shoot! I am a Family & Wedding Photographer, based in Dartington, Totnes in South Devon and happy to travel.
